American Media Distribution - Who is American Media Distribution

Has anyone heard or have had experiences with this company?

FYI-After I did not get a response from this I started another post - some people are posting there as well on the subject of American Media Distribution and related media topics.

IF YOU DO NOT LEAVE ME A CONTACT EMAIL OR LINK (no info will be posted publicly)  YOU MAY NOT HAVE YOUR REMARK POSTED.

  1. I have. Got an email about covering events. I see from your other post that you investigated and already know what I am probably going to say. I have been to a couple events and they paid me. They didn't ask me for any money fyi

  2. So they are legit? They offered me a spot and I'm doing homework to see if it's a god fit for me or not...

  3. So they are legit. They sent me something and I really would like to accept their offer, but not until I do my homework 1st.

  4. Hi Lyric,

Yes. I can't find anything at all that says they are doing anything weird. The thing that stuck out in my mind the most was a 5 or 6 year history with the BBB without a single complaint. No way can they control the BBB and you know these days, it would be all over the net of they were doing anything odd or scamming anyone. Any negative comments I have seen were all conjecture and uninformed people who did not know what a content broker was and think they are a publication. They were looking for AMD articles and if you know what a content or coverage broker is, they never take credit for their reporter's work. They are like a reporter temp agency.

I think it's safe, but only if you think it is a good fit for you.

  5. I received an email from them as well. I answered and it is legit. I just went on my first assignment a couple of weeks ago. It was fun. The check came yesterday.

  6. I just received an email and am in Canada, when I asked how they got my email they said an IT person looks for people with publications in certain areas they are scouting. I am still a bit skeptical although I can not find anything negative about the company. And yet I can't find out anything concrete either. HMMMM still makes me wary, especially coming from another country.
Anyone with more information and more concrete info would be great. Any Canadians doing work for them????

  8. I am always a bit skeptical when I receive an email that sounds a little to good to be true, but I gave it a shot and setup an appointment to hear what they had to say. It made sense after speaking with them and no one asked me for any $$. I just finished my first coverage and was paid for it so I am less skeptical at this point. I am always keeping my guard up though. I see what the whole thing is about. They want someone in every town to cover anything that a client publication might want covered. I received my second assignment and will keep you posted.

  9. It is decent. Above the norm actually. Some jobs pay more than others. It is kind of all over the place, but I guess it's work.

American Media Distribution started out as a streaming news to plasma company. I worked for them as a tech. Actually one of the first companies to stream news back in the 90's. I helped with some of the software that I still see in one form or another in the market today as one of the most stable streaming content packages around. Glad to see American Media Distribution is now also in the business of actually gathering the news now here in the 2000's.

  12. I just made a quick telephone call to a former General Cinemas Corporation executive. He said they are fairly well known in the Theater, Movie, and mass media marketing fields (those wide-screen plasma TV's you see playing advertisements 24/7 in malls, gas stations, convenience stores, etc.). They used to be real big with a company called Convergent Media Group, which merged with and became Thompson Technologies, which was recently bought out by Sony Corporation. He would not express an opinion of "good" or "bad", just the facts that they have existed over a reasonable time, and they did business internationally with recognized big companies.

  14. I know, we did business with American Media Distribution and kind of had an odd good experience. I missed an email and jumped the gun and the customer service was all over me (in a good way) with emails and calls. Then I found the email and felt like an idiot! LOL. Really good CS
